Irregular Verbs. Hacer and Haber used Impersonally

131. The verbs dar, ' to give,' hacer, ' to do, make,' poner, ' to put,' saber, ' to know,' ' to know how.'

Of all the above forms only those in the first person singular, doy, hago, pongo, sé, are irregular. The past descriptive indicative of all these verbs is regular. See 79.
Learn the past absolute of the above four verbs, 471, 476.

The first has the endings of the second and third conjugations, while the last three are irregular past absolutes.
In the future indicative and conditional dar is regular. Learn the irregular futures and conditionals of hacer, poner, saber, 470 d.
The past participles of hacer, poner, are hecho, puesto, 494.

132. Hacer and haber are used impersonally to express the state of the weather. Haber may be used only in speaking of visible phenomena.

Hace frío, hizo frío. It is cold, it was cold.
Hace buen tiempo. It is good weather.
Hace calor, hará calor, etc. It is warm, it will be warm, etc.
Hace fresco. It is cool.
Hace mal tiempo,
hacía mal tiempo,
etc.
It is bad weather,
it was bad weather.
Hay sol, habrá, sol, etc. It is sunny, it will be sunny, etc.
Hay luna, hubo luna, etc. The moon is shining, the moon was shining, etc. (lit., there is moon, there was moon, etc.).

133. Hacer and Haber are also used impersonally in the sense of ' ago.' Haber is commonly used only in the present form ha, following the expression of time. Hacer is used throughout the conjugation and usually precedes the expression of time.

Hace un año que vivo aquí. I have been living here for
a year.
Also:  Vivo aquí desde hace un año.
Le ví una semana ha, le ví hace una semana, or le ví desde hace unasemana. I saw him a week ago.
Hacía un año que estaba allí. I had been there for a year.
¿Cuánto hace que vive usted aquí? How long have you lived here?
Mañana hará dos años que la ví. It will be two years to-morrow since I saw her.
Hace un mes que salieron,
or salieron desde hace un mes.
They left a month ago.
