a. The seasons are:

la primavera, the spring el otoño, the autumn
el verano, estío, the summer el invierno, the winter

b. The months 1 are:

enero, January julio, July
febrero, February agosto, August
marzo, March septiembre,2 September
abril, April octubre,2 October
mayo, May noviembre, November
junio, June diciembre, December

c. The days of the week 1 are:

el domingo, Sunday el jueves, Thursday
el lunes, Monday el viernes, Friday
el martes, Tuesday el sábado, Saturday
el miércoles, Wednesday

The names of the seasons and of the days of the week are generally preceded by the definite article, 35 a, 4.

d. Other expressions of time are:

ayer, yesterday.
antier, day before yesterday.
hoy, to-day.
mañana, to-morrow.
pasado mañana, day after to-morrow.
semana, week.
la semana que viene, next week.
año, year.
el año que viene, next year.
ahora un año, hace un año, a year ago.
en quince días, in a fortnight.
ocho días, a week.
a principios de abril, towards the beginning of April.
a mediados (días understood)
de mayo,
towards the middle of May.
a últimos de agosto, towards the end of August.
Viene los lunes. He comes (on) Mondays.
Se va los sábados. He leaves (on) Saturdays.
¿A cuántos (del mes) estamos? What day of the month is it?
Estamos a quince de junio. It is the 15th of June.

minuto, minute.
segundo, second.

1 The names of the months and of the days of the week are usually not capitalized.
2 Septiembre, octubre are usually pronounced setiembre, otubre.

279. The method of expressing the time of day is illustrated by the following examples:

¿Qué hora es? What time is it?
Es la una (hora understood). It is one o'clock.
Son las dos (horas understood). It is two o'clock.
Son las dos y diez. It is ten minutes past two.
Son las seis y cuarto. It is quarter past six.
Son las ocho y media. It is half past eight.
Son las tres menos veinte. It is twenty minutes of three.
 
Son las doce del día.
Es a mediodía.
} It is noon.
 
Son las doce de la noche.
Es a media noche.
} It is midnight.
 
a las tres (horas understood), at three o'clock.
a las ocho de la mañana, at eight o'clock in the morning.
Faltan diez para la una. It is ten minutes of one.
Pasan veinte de las dos. It is twenty minutes past two.
¿A qué hora salió? At what hour did he leave?
